Overview

Etsh is a terminal emulator for macOS. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data Etsh collects and how we handle it.

Data Collection

We do not collect any personal data. Etsh runs entirely on your local machine. Your commands, shell history, terminal output, and SSH credentials never leave your device.

Network Access

Etsh itself does not transmit any data. The only network connections are:

• Auto-update checks: Etsh uses the Sparkle framework to check for updates. This sends an anonymous request to etsh.sh to retrieve the current version information. No personal data is transmitted.
• Commands you run: Any network activity from commands you execute in the terminal (like curl, ssh, git, etc.) is initiated by those commands, not by Etsh itself.

Homebrew Integration

Etsh includes optional Homebrew integration. When you use this feature, Etsh runs local Homebrew commands on your machine. Any network requests are made by Homebrew itself, not by Etsh.

Local Storage

Etsh stores preferences locally on your machine using macOS UserDefaults. This includes settings like font size, theme, cursor style, and saved SSH hosts. This data never leaves your device.

Analytics

Etsh does not include any analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking. We don't know how many people use Etsh or how they use it.

Third Parties

Etsh does not share any data with third parties because we don't collect any personal data to share. The Sparkle update framework only makes anonymous version check requests to our servers.

Updates

Etsh includes automatic update checking via the Sparkle framework. You can disable this in the app preferences. When enabled, Etsh periodically checks etsh.sh for new versions. These requests contain no identifying information.

Security

Etsh takes security seriously:

• SSH identity files are validated to be under the home directory (path traversal prevention)
• Hostname and username inputs are sanitized per RFC 1123
• All shell commands are properly escaped to prevent injection
• No shell history or sensitive data is transmitted externally
